SANDVIK Solution:

We immediately pinpointed the source of the problem. The spring's fixed inner end did not allow for reverse rotation - needed to accommodate the extra length of a heat-expanded hose on the reel. To protect the spring mechanism, our engineers came up with a unique concept currently under patent search. SANDVIK's new B-motor spring features a ratcheted, looped inner end that assures and enhances product performance by allowing reverse rotation at full unwind and providing quicker hose retraction. Designed for cost-effective retrofit, SANDVIK's innovative solution made the critical difference to Specialty Manufacturing.

Northland's challenge called for teamwork. Our engineers looked at the product from every angle - materials, design, production. Then, they laid out their plan of attack. To reduce product costs, manufacturing Northland's spring power-pack had to be simplified and labor reduced. An innovative design was developed. SANDVIK's patented B-motor with a free-floating plug. This compact design requires a minimum number of parts, is easy to assemble, and improves product performance by preventing overwinding and jamming of the motor. The net result to Northland - an enhanced product at a 20% cost reduction.
