Anders Digernes awarded the 2015 Wilhelm Haglund Medal

The Product Developer of the Year and receiver of the Wilhelm Haglund medal 2015 is Anders Digernes from Sandvik in Norway. Digernes receives the award for the development of a new generation of the technology behind vibration-dampened tools – Silent Tools®.

"I am truly honored by the acknowledgement. However, innovation and results are never achieved by one person. I share the honor with many colleagues that have worked hard to achieve these results", says the proud, yet humble, winner.

Silent Tools® is the trademark for a family of tool holders for turning, milling, boring and drilling. The tool holders are designed to minimize vibrations through a dampener inside the tool body.

"What is being rewarded here is a good example of successful product development. The new generation Silent Tools®, possessing a unique patented solution, enables our customers to obtain the highest performance for long tools. This generation of unique tools will strengthen our leading position on the market within customer segments with strong growth", says Olle Wijk, Head of Group R&D.

The award was presented at Sandvik's Annual General Meeting on 7 May in Sandviken, Sweden.
