The Sandvik Group

Sandvik is a high-technology, engineering group with advanced products and a world-leading positions within selected areas. Worldwide business activities are conducted through representation in more than 130 countries. In 2011 the Group had 50,000 employees and sales of more than SEK 94 billion.

Sandvik's operations are based on unique expertise in materials technology and extensive insight into customer processes. This combination has provided world-leading positions in three primary areas:

  • Tools for metal cutting in cemented carbide and high-speed steel as well as components in cemented carbide and other hard materials.
  • Equipment and tools for the mining and construction industries.
  • Products in advanced stainless materials, titanium, special alloys, metallic and ceramic resistance materials and process systems.

Business concept

Sandvik shall develop, manufacture and market high-tech products and services that facilitate higher customer productivity and profitability.

Ownership

The largest shareholders, in percent of voting rights 31 December 2011, were AB Industrivärden (12.2), Swedbank Robur Funds (4.6) and Svenska Handelsbanken's Pension Foundation (4.1).

Group executive management

Research and development

Sandvik invests about SEK 3 billion each year in research and development and more than 2,700 employees are active in this area. The Group has about 5,500 active patents.
